On the Register!

So I was a little surprised to find a letter from the State Department today telling me that,

"...your name has been added to the register of those awaiting appointment to the Foreign Service as an Entry Level Officer in the Economic Affairs career track."

That happened a lot faster than anticipated. I thought for sure the TS clearance and final adjudication would have taken a lot longer. Guess I'm a tons more boring than I thought (and I think I'm pretty boring)! Now to DNC for a short period or not to DNC! That is a question for me and Mrs. FSOWannabe!

Congratulations!!!

Okay, do you mind translating for me? What does "DNC" mean (other than Democratic National Convention)?

And will you be testing in a language?

Thanks everyone! I'm a bit buzzed about it since I didn't expect to make the register until this summer at the earliest.

Kolbi, DNC stands for Do Not Call. I'm considering DNC'ing it through the summer in order to try and get an offer either later this year/early next year.

I have not yet taken the language exam. I found out I'm #32 so far on my register, which I think gives me a pretty good chance of getting an invite within the next year without taking the language test.

Congratulations! Big exhale. Now on to the next stage of obsessing... it's never ending, it seems. Good for you!

A thousand congratulations and thank you for helping me understand DNC. Wouldn't have figured that one out on my own... ever!

That's a great spot on the register! You must be so proud!

My thoughts are with Mrs. FSOWannabe... State really is a fabulous employer and a wonderful career...

I am sooooo excited for you!!!! Like more than you know! Some guy on the Facebook group for Careers in Foreign Service was looking to read how others in waiting were doing, and I told him to come to your blog to see how you were doing, and I am beyond stoked that you are on the register!!

The language test isn't too hard, just practice telling stories about current events and other stuff in your language and I'm sure you'll do fine! Ah!! Sooo excited for you!!! Good luck to the Mrs. in June. I am trying to get my boyfriend to take the exam this year as well.

Also, your tips for the PNQ have been really great and my answers are really coming along now!

Wow! That was fast. You got your first call regarding security clearance in late Feb, right? Congratulations on this step of the process and best wishes as you and MRS. FSOwannabe figure out your plan of attack!
