So offers went out for the September class, and for the first time, I would not have received an offer. Not sure if they hired fewer econ officers, if there were more Pickering fellows, or less people being on DNC this round. Still sucks, because I would hate to be on the downward slope. Must start studying my Japanese every day.
Anyhow, I am currently 32 out of 86 on the Econ Register.

you are in a pretty good spot! I have no idea what happened in Sept. We're all hoping it was an exception to the norm.
Yikers!!! Good luck!
Hello FSO Wannabe. Your blog is great! I'm de-lurking to ask a question (more like clarification). We are in the process (waiting for QEP) but my hubby has a 1+ year commitment to the military. Could you clarify something for me? If you go on the DNC, can you still see your place on the register and whether it moves up or down? We're trying to avoid any employment gaps and knowing our place on the register might take a little of the worry out I think. I hope? Thanks! ~L
Thanks, B and Destinaish Unknown!
Hi Elmoisgr8 (are you in the 3-6 age bracket? Because my oldest, almost 4, thinks elmo is great, too! Thanks for de-lurking and dropping a note. I have never bothered to set up a sitemeter, because I'm old and remember 5.5" floppy disks, so it's always nice to see someone new!
Once your husband passes the OA, and gets through security clearances and medical clearances, you are put on the register (I imagine that can take at least several months, but could always take a lot longer). As for the DNC list, once your husband is on the register all he needs to do is contact the appropriate person at State to see where he is on the register. I check in usually a week or two after offers go out for each A-100 class. But I imagine you can check a lot more frequently. They have always been very helpful and prompt at telling me where I am on the register (despite being DNC for the near future). So long answer short - yes, you can always ask to see where you are on the register to get an idea of where you are.
Best of luck to your family on this journey - and double good luc to your husband on the QEPs and OA (make sure he takes advantage of the Yahoo boards - lots of goodies for prepping for the OA).
Parents of young ones usually get my post name right off the bat! I do have two in that range but the funny thing is, I've had this name since looong before I had kiddos. I'm the one that loved Elmo! But shh, don't tell anyone, I am a grown woman afterall, on the outside anyway ;-)
Thanks for your answer. The state page makes it sound like you have to have a major story before they put you on the DNC. What are the yahoo boards? I know of the FSOT ones. What other ones should I have him check?
Hi Elmoisgr8, Sorry for not responding sooner. The other yahoo boards your husband should look at is the FSOA board, which has a lot of great files and resources for preparing for the OA. Once he gets past the OA stage, he can join the Yahoo A-100 group, which answers a lot of the register, early FSO life questions one might ask.
